MEET MIMI

I have just awaken. My eyes are still closed yet I can’t keep my mind still. Too many things to do today, again. The rush of life. I want it all for my family and friends: health, happiness, success and fun. A balanced life.

For me, it starts with good food and the use of healthy products. This is what I would like this site to be about; a resource for the busy professional, parent, health conscious, the stressed out who want to keep sane physically AND mentally. Not only to survive the craziness of modern life, but to also enjoy a rich, informed and balanced life.

I have always been curious as to how things work. I want to understand what I put on and in my body! Throughout my studies in biotechnology and chemistry, I have searched to understand how chemistry and biology work and how their interaction translates into everyday life.

Although there are some basic principles, there are so many tones of gray – and so much pseudo-science out there – that is can become complicated to feel secure about any decision. I realized two things very early:

1. you can find some sort of evidence for almost any point you want to make

2. there is never a completely right or wrong answer – or the proper scientific evidence to back it up. You have to do your homework (and beware of pseudo- science!) to get to a balanced answer!

While finalizing my Ph.D. thesis, I became a mother which pushed me to deepen my search for balancing the scientific evidence in my everyday consumer decision. What I may have accepted for myself I was no longer accepting for my new born babies. At the time, I was living in a different country, unfamiliar with the origin of the products available.

I want to make sure I base my decision on the right scientific evidence. As a scientist, I also know the evidence isn’t complete. The motto that I came to strongly believe in, after lots of reading and searching, is that:
MODERATION in EVERYTHING even MODERATION in MODERATION!
This is a good start for me. Then finding simple yet precise answer to everyday like questions – which yogurt should I pick? 0% fat or none? Is it important to care about the pH of water? I am craving for fried food which oil should I use? Bio for everything? Vegan? Gluten? Parabens? Detox? – what makes sense and keeps us sane…

For more than 15 years I’ve managed various scientific research projects relating to food, health, immunology and cancer. I now understand deeply the tight connection between lifestyle and health. Having also lived the craziness of a busy mother, partner and travelling professional, I believe I’m in a great position to demystify science and simplify choices of everyday life.
My passion is understanding chemistry and nature and how their connection translates into our personal worlds. Welcome aboard!
